Nigeria: Ebonyi Killing - APGA Urges Youths to Shun Reprisal

What the report says
APGA leaders in Ebonyi State have urged youths and party supporters in Ohaukwu Local Government Area to avoid reprisals after the death of Elder Ubochi Onwe, and to let security agencies handle the inquiry. According to the report by Vanguard carried on AllAfrica, the appeal came during a condolence visit to Onwe’s family in Osege, Umuogudu Oshia Ngbo, after the elder was found dead a day after attending a political event in the community.
The delegation was led by APGA’s senatorial candidate for Ebonyi North in the 2027 election, Chief Chikaodili Ojimba, who described the death as troubling and said the party had adopted the bereaved family. He and other party figures called for a thorough investigation by the police, the Department of State Services and other relevant agencies, saying those responsible should be identified and prosecuted through lawful means.
Party officials also stressed that supporters should not take the law into their own hands or use the incident to spark wider violence. The youth leader in Ohaukwu echoed that call for calm, while family members said the deceased had attended the political event before he went missing and was later found dead. The family said some people had been questioned, but they were waiting for the investigation to establish what happened. The case matters because it has stirred concern in the local community and could heighten political tensions if not handled carefully.
