Nigeria: Ebola - FG Orders Strict Screening At Nigeria's Entry Points

What the report says
Nigeria’s Ministry of Health has ordered stricter enforcement of Ebola screening and other entry procedures at the country’s designated points of entry, according to a report carried by AllAfrica from Premium Times. The directive was issued after the Office of the National Security Adviser raised concerns about reported breaches of approved Ebola entry protocols.
The circular, dated 22 October and signed on behalf of Health Minister Muhammad Pate by Permanent Secretary Daju Kachollom, instructs relevant ministries, departments and agencies, health institutions and other stakeholders to comply with screening, health declaration and surveillance requirements. The ministry said consistent enforcement is needed to limit the risk of cross-border spread and to protect both public health and national security.
The report said the order also comes as Nigerian authorities respond to a confirmed Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory involving a woman who had recently arrived from Uganda. Officials have begun contact tracing to identify people who may have been exposed, while institutions are being asked to report any attempted or actual breaches and to support enforcement staff without interference.
The development underscores how quickly Nigerian health authorities are trying to tighten border and entry controls during an active public health response. More broadly, Ebola-related screening measures are commonly used in affected or at-risk countries to detect possible cases early and reduce transmission, though the specific effectiveness depends on implementation and compliance.
