Nigeria: Army Destroys Kidnappers' Hideout, Recovers Ammunition in Kogi

What the report says
The Nigerian Army says troops destroyed a suspected kidnappers’ camp in Edimogbo Forest in Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State and recovered ammunition and other items. The report, carried by Premium Times and distributed by AllAfrica, says the operation was carried out by the 21 Battalion Quick Reaction Force after intelligence indicated that armed suspects were using the forest as a base.
According to the army statement cited in the article, the suspects fled deeper into the forest after spotting the approaching troops and firing a shot to warn others. The soldiers did not make direct contact with them, but later dismantled the camp and its supporting structures.
The recovered items included 1,000 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition, seven bandoliers and six motorcycles, along with tools and personal items such as shovels, a hand pump, a mobile phone, a modem, clothing and shoes. The army said searches were continuing in the surrounding area to try to trace the fleeing suspects.
The operation adds to recent security actions in Kogi State, where Nigerian forces have also reported other anti-banditry operations in nearby areas. More broadly, such raids are part of ongoing efforts by security agencies in north-central Nigeria to disrupt kidnapping networks and reduce attacks on rural communities.
