What the report says

Organisers of the Ajayi Elebire Elite Basketball Camp say the fifth edition of the annual development programme will focus on identifying young talent and expanding scholarship opportunities for promising players. According to Premium Times, the camp is set to screen participants in Lagos on 19 October before selected players and coaches move to Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, for the rest of the programme.

The camp was founded by Olalekan Ajayi, a former international basketball player, and is held in memory of his late father, Babatunde Elebire Ajayi. Mr Ajayi said foreign coaches will take part in the selection and training process this year, with organisers looking for players from Lagos and nearby states who could benefit from further sporting and educational support.

Premium Times reported that last year’s edition awarded scholarships to 10 participants, and the organisers want to build on that result. This year’s training session is scheduled for 21 to 23 October and will conclude with an All-Stars game. Participants are expected to leave on 24 October.

The camp reflects a broader effort in Nigerian grassroots sports to combine talent development with educational pathways. Premium Times said the initiative will return to Ado-Ekiti for a second consecutive year as it continues to support the progression of young basketball players.
