Nigeria: Adeleke Poised to Unleash Mayhem At Local Councils Again, Osun APC Alleges

The Osun State chapter of Nigeria’s opposition All Progressives Congress has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s camp of planning renewed unrest around local government councils, urging security agencies to step in. The allegation was made by APC state chairman Sooko Tajudeen Lawal in a statement carried by Leadership and republished by AllAfrica. He said any concerns about possible attacks on council secretariats or motor parks should be handled by police and other security bodies rather than by political actors.

According to the report, Lawal’s comments followed an Osun State Government statement warning that some stakeholders might try to cause trouble at local government councils and motor parks after the August 15, 2026 governorship election. Lawal cautioned the governor against actions that could deepen political tension and said security agencies should protect council officials, workers and other lawful occupants of council premises, regardless of party affiliation.

He also urged the Nigeria Police Force, the DSS and the NSCDC to increase surveillance and preventive deployment around council secretariats and other sensitive sites. Lawal argued that disputes over council control should be resolved through dialogue, constitutional processes and the courts, not force. The APC statement framed the issue as part of wider concern about preventing a repeat of earlier political violence in Osun, while also calling on residents to remain calm and law-abiding.
