Nigeria: 23 Million Children Vaccinated Against Polio, Other Diseases in Six Months - Report

What the report says

A new report from eHealth Africa says more than 23 million children in Nigeria were vaccinated against polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases between January and June 2026. According to the Premium Times report distributed by AllAfrica, the campaign reached more than 205,000 settlements nationwide as part of a wider package of health-system interventions documented in the report, "Expanding Reach, Readiness and Resilience: Data-Driven Health Systems Across Africa."

The report says eHealth Africa and its partners expanded the use of its PlanFeld digital tool across 253 local government areas in 10 northern states, giving 33,837 vaccination teams digitized microplans and maps. It also notes a measles-rubella campaign in four LGAs in Lagos State, where 1,980 digitized maps were produced. In Sokoto State, a vaccine delivery initiative increased the number of facilities served from 351 to 407 and delivered about 3.41 million vaccine antigens.

Beyond immunization, the report describes related work on solar power for 238 primary healthcare centres in 12 states, laboratory upgrades in several African countries, emergency coordination through 11 Nigerian Emergency Operations Centres, and community monitoring of medicine availability in six Nigerian jurisdictions. The broader picture is that digital tools, logistics and infrastructure are being used to improve routine care and outbreak response, especially in underserved areas.

eHealth Africa said the results showed the value of combining technology, local partnerships and public health systems. The organisation’s executive director said the impact went beyond raw numbers, though that statement was part of the report’s own commentary rather than an independently verified assessment.
