Nigeria: 2027 - Middle-Aged Voters Dominate Nigeria's 103m Voter Register - INEC

What the report says
Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission says the national voter register has risen to 103 million ahead of the 2027 general elections, following three rounds of continuous voter registration carried out between August 2025 and July 2026. The update was given in Abuja by INEC Chairperson Joash Amupitan during a briefing on preparations for the polls, which are scheduled for January and February 2027.
According to the figures presented, voters aged 35 to 49 now make up the largest share of the register, with more than 43 million names. That group is followed by voters aged 18 to 34, while those aged 70 and above form the smallest age bracket. INEC said the current age profile marks a shift from the 2023 register, when younger adults made up the biggest block of voters. The commission also reported a slight male majority in the overall list.
State-by-state figures showed Lagos with the largest number of registered voters, followed by Kano and Kaduna, while Ekiti had the fewest. INEC also said the register includes 232,658 persons with disabilities across 10 categories.
The commission plans to display the voter list nationwide from 9 to 15 October so people can review their details and file objections. It said the final register is expected to be handed to political parties on 15 December. The update matters because the voter roll is a key administrative step before a major national election and can influence party planning, turnout strategies and public scrutiny of the process.
