The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has pushed back against comments by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, who said the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, would be defeated on election day. The response came after Wike spoke at a civic reception organized by the City Boy Movement in Omagwa, Ikwerre Local Government Area, where he reportedly mocked the ADC and predicted a decisive loss for its ticket in 2027. The party’s state chairman, Chukwudi Dimkpa, accused Wike of trying to intimidate voters and described the remarks as politically improper. He urged Rivers residents not to be pressured and to choose leaders they believe will be credible and beneficial.

The ADC also linked the dispute to Amaechi’s family burial period, saying the timing of the reception and the political criticism was insensitive. The party said the matter reflects the long-running rivalry between the two politicians and argued that no one can claim ownership of voters or pre-empt an election outcome.
