Next Travel Partners with MTN MoMo to Launch Digital Flight Booking Service

Nile Post reported that Next Travel, a subsidiary of Next Ticket under Next Media, has teamed up with MTN MoMo Uganda and travel technology firm Amadeus to introduce Travel by MoMo, a flight-booking service available through the MTN MoMo app. The service was unveiled on Tuesday at Sheraton Kampala Hotel in Kampala.

According to the report, the platform lets users search for flights, compare airline fares and schedules, choose routes, and pay in Uganda shillings through MTN MoMo. It is intended to serve travellers booking for business, holidays, education, medical trips, pilgrimages and family visits. The system is powered by Amadeus technology, which the partners said connects users to hundreds of airlines and provides real-time availability, fares and secure booking tools.

Next Travel General Manager Jonathan Martin Kyeyo described the launch as an example of organizations combining expertise to address customer needs, saying modern travellers want convenience, transparency, speed and choice. MTN MoMo Uganda Managing Director Phrase Lubega said the service responds to difficulties customers face when booking international flights, including use of multiple websites or agents and payment barriers.

The development matters because it links global airline booking infrastructure with a widely used local mobile money payment channel. Based on the partners’ account, the service could reduce reliance on international bank cards or foreign currency for flight purchases, while adding another digital commerce use case to Uganda’s mobile money ecosystem.
