Newcastle agree £34m deal for Monaco's Bamba

BBC Sport reports that Newcastle United have reached an agreement worth up to £34m to sign Monaco midfielder Aladji Bamba. The 20-year-old French player is expected to travel to Tyneside on Thursday for a medical and to complete paperwork on a long-term contract, meaning the transfer is not yet formally finished.

According to the report by Newcastle United reporter Ciaran Kelly, Bamba made his senior debut in August 2025 and has also represented France at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 levels. The deal would add another young midfielder to Newcastle’s squad after the club signed 18-year-old Sean Steur from Ajax.

The move comes during a reshaping of Newcastle’s midfield options. BBC Sport says the club sold Sandro Tonali to Tottenham last month and had been looking for another young player in that area of the pitch. Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi was also a target, but he chose to join Aston Villa last week.

BBC Sport also highlighted Bamba’s statistical profile in Ligue 1 last season. Among midfielders in the division with at least 500 minutes played, he was listed in the top five for average duels won, tackles, successful take-ons and aerial duels won. If completed, the transfer would be a significant investment in a player with limited senior experience but strong underlying numbers, as Newcastle continue their summer rebuild.
