New Music Programme Targets Uganda’s Global Export Market

A new one-year music production programme has been launched in Uganda to help local producers build the technical, business and professional skills needed to reach international markets. The initiative, run by Creator through Creator Academy, is aimed at turning music production into a more sustainable career path and strengthening Uganda’s music export pipeline.

According to Nile Post, the programme was developed by Practical Stream Uganda Limited, a creative industry company founded by Moise Chitwara. He said the effort grew out of the company’s experience in global music licensing and international commercial markets, where it identified gaps in formal training, production standards and music business knowledge. The launch was presented as a response to what organisers see as a wider infrastructure challenge in the sector, rather than a lack of talent.

The course will combine hands-on production training, music business lessons and character development. Participants are expected to leave with professional portfolios and practical knowledge aligned with commercial industry standards. Creator also says graduates will be linked to post-training opportunities through production projects, campaigns, consultancy work and industry events.

A central feature is the Creator Export Pipeline, intended to connect export-ready professionals with publishing, licensing, synchronisation and distribution opportunities. The organisers said the long-term goal is to build a pool of Ugandan music professionals who can compete internationally while contributing to the growth of the local industry. In a broader context, the launch reflects the increasing role of digital streaming and international licensing in expanding Uganda’s music reach.
