Al Jazeera reported that Yemen’s Houthi forces fired missiles and drones at major Saudi oil facilities on the Red Sea, widening the conflict linked to the US-Israel war against Iran. The attacks targeted Aramco sites in Jizan and Yanbu, according to Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree. Saudi Arabia had not commented on damage at the Jizan refinery, while smoke was reportedly seen after the strike. In Yanbu, Al Jazeera said two ballistic missiles aimed at oil installations were intercepted by a Patriot system operated by Greek forces under an arrangement with Riyadh.

The development follows a breakdown this month in the truce between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, who control Sanaa and much of northern and western Yemen. Al Jazeera reported that the Houthis had announced a naval blockade of Saudi Arabia, and that Saudi strikes hit Houthi-held Hodeidah late Friday before the Sunday attacks. The renewed fighting raises concern over the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a key Red Sea chokepoint; combined disruption there and in the Strait of Hormuz could severely affect global shipping and energy flows.

The report also said the wider confrontation has extended to the Caspian Sea. Iran’s Foreign Ministry accused Ukraine of a strike on an Iranian vessel that killed one sailor and wounded another, and summoned Kyiv’s charge d’affaires. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv had struck vessels linked to military cargo involving Iran, as well as a warship.

Al Jazeera said no new US air attacks on Iran had been reported for a second consecutive night by Sunday morning. US President Donald Trump said communication with Iran continued, while Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Tehran reported that messages were being exchanged through mediators, though major differences remained.
