CNN reported that newly unsealed U.S. federal court filings provide additional detail on sex-crime allegations behind a United Kingdom extradition request for Andrew and Tristan Tate. The brothers, social media influencers with dual U.S. and UK citizenship, appeared in federal court in Miami on Monday and remain in custody in Florida while contesting extradition. Their lawyers deny the allegations and are seeking release on bail.

According to CNN’s account of the filings and statements from UK authorities, Andrew Tate now faces 42 charges in the UK, including rape, human trafficking, assault, indecent images of a child and extreme pornography-related counts. Prosecutors described allegations from women who said they were choked, sexually assaulted or raped in incidents in England. Tristan Tate faces 17 charges, including rape, sexual assault and trafficking-related offenses; documents cited by CNN include allegations of repeated rape and physical violence against a former romantic partner. Prosecutors said investigators collected witness statements, messages and photographs they say support the claims.

The UK request follows earlier legal proceedings in Romania, where the brothers were arrested in 2022 and face separate allegations of human trafficking and forming an organized criminal group to sexually exploit women. They have denied wrongdoing in those proceedings as well. CNN reported that the brothers were arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service on July 18 after Romanian travel restrictions had been lifted and they had flown to Florida.

The extradition case matters because a U.S. judge must assess whether treaty requirements are met, while the final decision rests with the U.S. secretary of state. Defense attorneys argue the brothers should not remain detained and have described the UK case as politically motivated; prosecutors say they are a danger and flight risk.
