What the report says

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for an investigation into the anonymous whistleblowers behind the documentary NAZA, which alleges that Israel’s military used AI-assisted targeting systems in Gaza that resulted in civilian deaths. According to Al Jazeera, the film is based on testimony from 24 unnamed Israeli military sources and focuses on allegations about how strikes were selected and approved during the war.

Netanyahu urged senior legal and security officials to examine the people involved in the film and to consider prosecutions over alleged security breaches, libel and harm to Israel’s interests. He argued the documentary presents a distorted account that damages the image of the state and the military. The Israeli army has separately rejected the allegations, saying its strike approvals are made by human personnel and dismissing parts of the whistleblowers’ claims.

The controversy has intensified after the film won a special jury prize at the Venice International Film Festival and drew a long standing ovation. Its directors, Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, have since faced public accusations and threats, while officials have promoted a separate film meant to rebut the original claims. Al Jazeera also reported that several Israeli rights groups have defended the filmmakers and criticized the pressure against them.
