Nebbi residents trained in soap-making

More than 50 residents of Nebbi District have received training in soap-making through an initiative organised by Rahma Industrial Hub, according to Nile Post. The session took place at Cananyira Cell in Abindu Division, Nebbi Municipality, on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2026, and focused on making liquid and jelly soap. Organisers said the goal was to give participants practical, income-generating skills that could support self-employment and small businesses.

The hub’s chief executive officer and trainer, Ramadhan Bender Barigye, said the free programme was intended to help residents create work for themselves rather than depend only on formal employment. He also stressed the importance of a mindset shift toward producing goods and selling them. The organisers said soap-making was chosen because it can require relatively low start-up capital and may also contribute to household hygiene.

A participant, Joseline Okella, said she hoped to use the new skills to earn money and improve her livelihood. Cananyira Cell LC1 chairperson Patrick Jalar welcomed the training, saying it could strengthen residents’ earning capacity and allow those trained to pass the knowledge on to others.

More broadly, the report places the initiative within Uganda’s wider effort to promote practical skills as a response to unemployment and underemployment, especially for women and young people. In that context, such community-level training is seen as one way to bridge the gap between formal schooling and the labour market.
