NBS tops Uganda National Media Survey 2026, Live at 9 named most-watched English news bulletin

NBS Television has emerged as a standout performer in the 2026 Uganda National Media Survey, with several of its programmes ranking at the top of their categories. According to Nile Post’s report, the survey found that NBS Live at 9 was the country’s most-watched English news bulletin, while Uncut led the gossip and entertainment category. The station’s After 5 was named the best entertainment show, and Amasengejje placed second among Luganda news bulletins.

The survey also credited NBS with strong results in political programming. Barometer was ranked the best Luganda political programme, and Frontline was named the best English political programme. The findings suggest that the broadcaster has broad audience reach across news, entertainment and language-specific content.

The report says the media survey was conducted across 146 districts and covered all 15 sub-regions of Uganda. Its purpose was to measure how people consume media and to identify patterns across radio, television, print and online platforms. Dr Joel Isabirye, identified as the principal investigator and managing director of Market Intelligence Group, said the study is intended to help media houses understand audience preferences, support advertisers in targeting specific regions and demographics, and give policymakers and researchers a clearer picture of Uganda’s media landscape.

More broadly, the results point to the continued influence of television brands that can serve both national and local-language audiences. That makes the survey relevant not only for broadcasters, but also for advertisers and institutions assessing media trends in Uganda.
