National Cleaning Day: Police officer arrested over fatal shooting of boda boda rider in Ndejje

Uganda Police Force says it has arrested a police constable attached to Ndejje Police Station after a boda boda rider was fatally shot in Ndejje Kanaaba, in Katwe Police Division. The incident took place on Saturday morning, August 29, 2026, during a National Cleaning Day community exercise that was being secured by police officers.

According to the account published by Watchdog Uganda, police said the rider allegedly tried to pass through a restricted area while on his motorcycle. The officer named in the report, Police Constable Allan Okello, was taken into custody as investigators work to determine exactly what happened and whether the firearm was used lawfully and in line with police procedures.

Police preliminarily identified the deceased as Kizito Ronald Jjuuko, 38, using a National Identification Card. It also expressed condolences to Jjuuko’s family, while stressing that officers are expected to protect public order within the limits of the law.
