‘Nassanga Remix’ returns to YouTube after copyright mix-up

Sqoop Uganda reports that Kalifah Aganaga’s “Nassanga Remix” has returned to YouTube after a brief removal linked to a mistaken copyright claim. The remix features Winnie Nwagi, Weasel Manizo and Lil Pazo Lunabe, and Sqoop says it had passed one million views within two weeks of release before disappearing from the platform, prompting speculation among fans about a possible dispute.

According to Sqoop, the takedown was traced to deejay Junior Hassa, who had uploaded the song’s instrumental to YouTube and inadvertently placed it under the platform’s Content ID system. That registration reportedly caused YouTube’s automated tools to treat the official remix as a match against Hassa’s upload, leading to a temporary copyright strike and removal.

Sqoop cites Hassa’s phone interview with NRG Radio Uganda, in which he apologised to Kalifah Aganaga and listeners and said he had not intended to claim ownership of the song. The report says Hassa removed the Content ID claim and deleted the instrumental from his account, after which the original video was restored.

The episode is a reminder of how automated copyright systems can affect artists and releases when ownership details are entered incorrectly. YouTube’s Content ID is designed to help rights holders identify and manage use of their material, but errors can still interrupt access to popular content. Sqoop reports that, with the issue resolved, the song is back online and expected to continue drawing attention from Ugandan music fans.
