According to the report, the warning was issued by the Municipal Town Clerk after complaints that rubbish gathered during the most recent nationwide clean-up had not been cleared quickly. The Town Clerk said some residents were avoiding payments to licensed garbage collectors and instead waiting for the last Saturday of the month, when the national cleaning exercise takes place, to dispose of waste at no cost.

The municipality said it had coordinated with waste collection service providers and that removal of garbage accumulated during the latest clean-up had begun. Authorities urged residents to remain calm while the operation continues, but also warned that people who deliberately allow waste to pile up could face action under existing waste management rules.
