Nansana Village Chairpersons Sworn In Amid Oath Challenges, Singing

Newly elected village chairpersons in Nansana Division were sworn in on Friday in a ceremony that mixed official business with a few unexpected moments. According to Nile Post, some leaders had difficulty reciting the English-language oath, and officials had to guide them through parts of it before they could complete the exercise.

The swearing-in covered representatives from several villages and cells, including Meddie Mugerwa of Kazo Central I, Nathan Bogere of Kazo Central Zone II, Dorothy Nankya of Nabweru South Cell I, Ismail Kigozi of Kazo Muganzirwazza and Fred Kabanda of Ocheng 7 and 8. Leaders whose elections are still being challenged were not included in the ceremony.

Nansana Division Town Clerk Rosette Namiiro and Division Mayor Samuel Mugabi presided over the event and told the new chairpersons to serve all residents fairly and without discrimination. The officials’ message underscored the local government role of the leaders as community representatives rather than advocates for only their supporters.

The event also drew attention when Kigozi arrived with a song he said he had composed about his path to victory, adding a celebratory note to the formal proceedings. The new chairpersons pledged to work for development and improve services in their areas, a reminder of the expectations that often accompany local leadership transitions in Uganda.
