Nansana PWD Leader Urges Persons with Disabilities to Embrace Self-Reliance

The Chairperson for Persons with Disabilities in Nansana Division, Twaha Kyambadde, has called on people with disabilities to move away from street begging and focus on income-generating work that can support more independent livelihoods. In remarks reported by Nile Post, he said the growing presence of people with disabilities begging in public spaces weakens efforts to promote dignity and self-reliance.

Kyambadde also appealed to parents and guardians not to keep children with disabilities out of sight, arguing that doing so can prevent them from accessing education, healthcare and skills training. He said children should be supported so they can grow into productive and independent adults.

He praised government programmes aimed at assisting people with disabilities, saying they have improved the welfare of some beneficiaries. At the same time, he noted that many public buildings and facilities in Nansana Division remain difficult for people with disabilities to use. He urged authorities, developers and the wider public to place accessibility at the centre of infrastructure planning so that essential services are available without barriers.
