Nansana Municipality leaders have told village chairpersons to step up efforts to mobilise residents for monthly community cleaning exercises, warning that people who stay away could be compelled to take part. The directive, reported by Nile Post, was delivered during a cleaning and tree-planting activity held in parts of the municipality, where officials said turnout was lower than expected in some neighbourhoods.

According to the report, Nansana Resident District Commissioner Charles Lwanga criticised some village leaders for not doing enough to encourage participation. At Katangawuzi Market, traders and workers were among those who joined the exercise, but leaders said attendance was still limited. The article also says some residents were approached on the road and urged to join, while municipal leaders visited areas including Katooke and Wamala as part of the broader sanitation drive.

The leaders later took part in tree planting near the Wamala Tombs, linking the exercise to environmental conservation as well as cleanliness. Village chairpersons, however, said reluctance among residents had grown because rubbish collected in earlier cleanups was sometimes not removed, leaving some areas dirty after the campaigns.
