What the report says

Nile Post reported that Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), returned to Katwe on Wednesday to check on Babra Kyomugisha, a single mother who had earlier received support after her situation drew attention during the National Resistance Movement voter register verification exercise.

According to the report, Namyalo and Kyomugisha first met during the ongoing verification of NRM village committee voters’ registers ahead of Local Council I elections. Nile Post said a viral social media video had shown the difficult conditions in which Kyomugisha and her children were living. Kyomugisha reportedly described having no reliable income, struggling with hunger, and being unable to consistently meet school fees of Shs150,000 for her children.

The publisher reported that the ONC provided Kyomugisha with startup capital for a small business, moved the family from a makeshift shelter into a self-contained house with one year’s rent paid, and supplied items including bedding, clothing and food. During the follow-up visit, Namyalo said she was pleased with Kyomugisha’s progress and urged her to manage the business carefully while prioritising her children’s education and welfare.

Nile Post framed the intervention as part of the ONC’s stated humanitarian and livelihood-support activities for vulnerable Ugandans. The story matters locally because it links political mobilisation around NRM register verification with direct social assistance to an individual household, while also highlighting wider concerns about poverty, housing insecurity and school affordability among low-income urban families.
