Namirembe Diocese Honours Bishop Ssekkadde Two Years After His Death

What the report says
Namirembe Diocese and the family of former Bishop Samuel Balagadde Ssekkadde have marked his legacy with a memorial service at St Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, in Kampala. The service, led by the current Bishop of Namirembe, the Rt Rev Moses Banja, was held two years after Ssekkadde’s death, according to Nile Post.
The remembrance focused on his years of ministry in the Church of Uganda and his wider service to the community. Bishop Banja praised Ssekkadde for preaching to a broad range of people, including ordinary congregations, school communities and older persons, and described his life as one devoted to God’s work and the spiritual welfare of others.
The event also drew a message from Buganda’s leadership. Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, conveyed remarks from Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, who recalled Ssekkadde’s role in supporting the late Archbishop Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo in the marriage arrangement between Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and Nnaabagereka Sylvia Nagginda. The message also credited the bishop with helping transform lives through Gospel preaching.
Ssekkadde’s widow, Allen Ssekkadde, thanked the Buganda Royal Family and the kingdom government for their support during her grief. The memorial underlined the continued influence of the late bishop’s work in both church and community life, and the way religious leaders in Uganda are remembered for spiritual as well as public service.
