What the report says

Namibian cyclist Qara Volschenk emerged as the standout performer for her country at the South African Schools National MTB final in Stellenbosch over the weekend, according to The Namibian via AllAfrica. She won two gold medals in the under-14 sub-junior girls category, racing for Windhoek Gymnasium in the schools final and then again in the provincial final the following day.

The report says Volschenk won Friday’s race over two laps in 22:46, finishing ahead of Leone Theron and Leyla De Oliviera. On Saturday, she took the second title in 22:27, again beating Theron and De Oliviera. The publication added that she completed an unbeaten season in South Africa, with a run of eight victories that included several wins in the SA Cup series. The article also notes that she had previously won three cross-country short track races and three cross-country Olympic races during that campaign.

A Namibian squad of 17 cyclists, selected from the FNB Schools MTB League, took part in the finals. The country’s only other medallist mentioned was Micah Chase of St George’s College, who won two silver medals in the boys under-15 category. The results suggest Namibia had a solid showing at the school level event, with additional riders finishing just outside the podium in several age groups.
