New Era, as republished by AllAfrica, reports that an afternoon crash in Ondangwa, Namibia, left one pedestrian dead and six people injured after a silver VW Polo Vivo allegedly made an unsafe lane change and was hit by an Iveco bus. The collision occurred around 16:30 on the main road between Onethindi and Ondangwa, near the Standard Bank branch in Oluno.

According to the police account cited in the report, the bus then lost control, struck a white Toyota GD-6, and hit a pedestrian as well as four street vendors seated beside the road. The person who died at the scene was identified as Ananias Kandali Mvula, 44, from Okatale village in the Oshana region. Five of the injured sustained moderate wounds, while one woman suffered serious head injuries.

Police said the Iveco driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol after a breathalyser test reportedly showed 0.69 mg/l, above the legal limit. The case has also renewed concern about the risks faced by roadside vendors in Ondangwa, who often sell along busy roads near commercial areas.

The report also includes a council response disputing claims of a space shortage at local open markets. An Ondangwa Town Council spokesperson said several trading spaces remain available and urged vendors to apply through the municipality. The issue matters because it highlights both road safety and the pressure that informal traders face when trying to earn a living in areas with heavy traffic.
