Namibia: EIF Aids Flood-Hit Zambezi Farmers

AllAfrica, carrying a New Era report from Katima Mulilo dated 21 July 2026, reported that Namibia’s Environmental Investment Fund donated supplementary livestock feed worth N$500,000 to the Zambezi Regional Council on Friday. The assistance is intended for flood-affected livestock farmers in the Zambezi Region, with more than 3,000 vulnerable farmers expected to benefit, especially in Kabbe North, Kabbe South and Katima Rural.

The report said the feed was procured from Agra Namibia in Rundu. Beaven Walubita, the regional council’s acting chief regional officer, said the donation followed appeals the council made to corporate organisations during the floods. He said the council still needed to organise transport from Rundu to Katima Mulilo and emphasised that the feed should reach farmers before it expires.

At the handover, EIF Chief Human Capital and Corporate Services Officer Elvis Mukaya said the fund remained committed to supporting communities in the Zambezi Region facing climate-related disasters. He also pointed to a longer-term challenge: because the feed had to be sourced outside the region, he urged local leaders, traditional authorities and development partners to support agricultural initiatives such as local feed production and community fodder banks.

Zambezi Governor Dorothy Kabula-Simushi accepted the donation on behalf of the regional council and said it arrived at an important moment for farmers still recovering from floods that affected homes, grazing areas and livestock nutrition. The aid matters because livestock health is central to rural livelihoods, and timely feed support can help farmers protect animal productivity while recovery continues.
