Namagabi SS Marks Independence Day with Community Cleaning and Maternity Donations

What the report says
Namagabi Secondary School in Kayunga District marked Uganda’s 64th Independence Day with a community service drive that included cleaning parts of Kayunga Town and donating supplies to expectant and newly delivered mothers at Kangulumira Health Centre IV, according to Nile Post. The school said the activities were intended to support local hygiene and sanitation efforts while also helping mothers receiving care at the facility.
Headteacher Yusuf Kasireye said the school has made Independence Day outreach part of its annual tradition, using the occasion to serve the surrounding community rather than limiting celebrations to formal events. He said the idea is to connect patriotism with practical action that can improve everyday life for residents. The school leadership also framed the exercise as a way to encourage learners to value service to others.
The report says the initiative comes ahead of Namagabi SS’s Old Students’ Day, set for Sunday, October 11, when former students are expected to return to the school to discuss its future and possible ways to support academic performance and learners’ welfare. More broadly, the school’s outreach reflects a common theme in Uganda’s Independence Day activities, where institutions and communities often pair commemorations with service projects and local development efforts.
