Nakawa Court Remands Lawyer, Land Expert Over Shs520m Fraud Allegations

What the report says
Nakawa Magistrates Court has further remanded lawyer Augustine Paul Kasasa and land expert Ronald Fisher Mundere to Luzira Prison over allegations that they obtained Shs520 million from a Chinese national using false pretences. The pair appeared before Magistrate Frank Namanya, but the hearing could not move ahead because the case file was not before court, according to the report by Nile Post.
State prosecutor Mahatma Odongo asked for the accused to remain on remand while the matter is pending. Mundere objected to the remand order, arguing that he should not be returned to Luzira if the file was unavailable, but the magistrate rejected the objection and ordered him to stay on remand until October 15, 2026.
Nile Post reported that the prosecution says the alleged offence happened on June 8, 2026, at Kololo Courts Hotel in Nakawa Division. The state alleges that Kasasa, Mundere and others claimed they would help Chinese national Li Huafeng buy land at Coral Crescent, Plot 12, Kololo, and then took the money without completing the transaction. The accused have not been convicted, and the case will continue through the court process. In general, remand decisions are common in Ugandan criminal proceedings when a case is not ready to proceed, though each matter depends on its own facts and filings.
