Nakasongola Security Guard Shot Dead as Robbers Steal His Gun

What the report says
Police in Nakasongola District are investigating a murder and aggravated robbery after a 22-year-old security guard was shot dead and his firearm taken during an early-morning confrontation at a farm in Lwabyata Sub-county. The Nile Post reported that the victim, Innocent Tonny Okot, was employed by Axis Warriors Ltd and was guarding the late Mafende’s Farm in Kikuuta Village.
According to Savannah Region police spokesperson ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the incident happened around 3 a.m. on Monday, October 26, when one guard noticed a group of people armed with spears and apparently fishing for lungfish in flooded parts of the farm. Other guards moved in, and four suspects were arrested as spears and fish were recovered. Okot then chased other fleeing suspects, after which colleagues heard gunshots.
Twiineamazima said Okot later cried out that he had been shot and that his gun had been stolen. He was rushed for treatment but died soon after from a gunshot wound in the groin area. Police said the stolen firearm, which had five rounds at the start, was later recovered with two rounds still inside.
Four suspects have been detained, while about 20 others are still being sought. Police also recovered spears, torches and about 20 pieces of lungfish. The body was taken to Nakasongola Hospital for postmortem, and the firearm is due for ballistic analysis as inquiries continue.
