Nakaseke North MP Walks Out of Roads Committee Over Unequal Funding

Nakaseke North MP Wilbur Aheebwa walked out of a district roads committee meeting in Nakaseke after objecting to what he described as an uneven split of road funds for the 2026/2027 financial year, according to Nile Post. The dispute centered on Kinoni, Ngoma and Kinyogoga sub-counties, which he said together received only Shs24 million even though they have a combined road network of more than 380 kilometres.

District engineer Steven Sekayingo presented a road budget of about Shs3.1 billion, covering maintenance, rehabilitation and Road Fund allocations for district, town council and sub-county roads. Aheebwa questioned why a large share appeared to be going to projects in the southern part of the district while some areas in Nakaseke North received much smaller amounts. The article says Nakaseke South road-related projects were allocated Shs989 million, while Kinoni, Ngoma and Kinyogoga were assigned Shs6 million, Shs8 million and Shs10 million respectively.

Aheebwa said he was pressing for fairness in how funds are distributed and argued that allocations should better reflect road length and local needs. He later returned to the meeting and said his protest was not about personal or political interests, but about residents across the district.

District officials acknowledged the concern and said they would discuss the matter with the relevant ministries. Deputy Chairperson Benjamin Makanga said the district would seek additional funding from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Works and Transport, while Sekayingo said any changes would have to go through the approved budgeting process.
