Muwanga Kivumbi alive, dumped at Nateete Police Station

The Independent Uganda, citing Uganda Radio Network, reported that former Butambala County MP Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi resurfaced at Nateete Police Station in Kampala on Wednesday morning, July 29, 2026. The report says Kivumbi had been held incommunicado for more than two weeks after his alleged arrest by unidentified security operatives.

According to sources cited in the report, unknown state operatives left Kivumbi at the police station. URN said it could not independently confirm the circumstances in which he was brought there, or whether authorities planned to take him to court. By the time of publication, police had not issued an official statement, and it remained unclear whether Kivumbi would be released, charged again, or presented before a judicial officer.

The case follows Kivumbi’s reported re-arrest on July 9, shortly after he had secured bail on terrorism charges before the International Crimes Division of the High Court. The development is significant because it comes after High Court Judge Collins Acellam directed the Chief of Defence Forces, the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General to complete inquiries into Kivumbi’s whereabouts and file a report before court.
