MUST moves 33rd graduation ceremony to avoid clash with National Cleaning Day

Mbarara University of Science and Technology has moved its 33rd graduation ceremony from October 31 to October 29, 2026, after Uganda’s government designated the last Saturday of every month as National Cleaning Day. The change was communicated in a letter dated August 4, 2026, from Academic Registrar Martha Kyoshaba Twinamasiko, according to Nile Post.

The university said the revised date is meant to avoid a scheduling clash with the nationwide sanitation initiative and to allow members of the university community to take part in the cleaning programme. MUST said it adjusted its plans by two days so that graduation activities would not overlap with the government directive.

The institution also instructed graduating students to complete clearance with academic, financial and administrative offices by August 28, 2026. It said this would help with preparation work such as transcript printing, gown distribution and compiling the graduation booklet. Graduands, parents and invited guests were advised to update travel and accommodation plans to reflect the new Thursday ceremony date.

MUST said more information on invitations and venue arrangements would be shared through its official channels. The move is a reminder of how public-sector schedules and university events can be affected by national civic programmes, especially when large ceremonies require extensive coordination.
