Muslims Conduct National Prayers for Rain

Muslims across Uganda held special prayers on Friday asking for rain, forgiveness and relief for communities facing prolonged hot and dry weather. According to Watchdog Uganda, the prayers took place in different parts of the country and were meant to help restore crops, vegetation and water sources for people and livestock.

At Gaddafi National Mosque in Old Kampala, the main service followed the Friday congregational prayers and was led by Sheikh Imran Abdnoor Ssali, the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) Secretary for Religious Affairs. The sermon before the prayers was delivered by Sheikh Hussein Juma Bulafu, who called for unity, brotherhood, faith, repentance and solidarity among Muslims, drawing on Quranic teachings and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad.

The publication said the prayers brought together senior Muslim leaders, government officials and other worshippers. It also reported that light rain was later seen in places including Kampala, Wakiso, Jinja and Mbale, which offered some relief after the dry spell.

Watchdog Uganda noted that the UMSC Mufti, Dr Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, was in Cairo for an international conference, while the Deputy Mufti and Second Deputy Mufti were absent because of official engagements. The event highlights how dry weather can affect agriculture and water access, prompting religious communities to seek collective responses alongside practical solutions.
