Musisi cross-examined in Kira Municipality election petition

What the report says
Kira Municipality MP George Musisi has been cross-examined at the High Court in Wakiso, sitting at Nabweru, in an election petition challenging his victory in the January 15, 2026 parliamentary poll. The case was filed by former National Resistance Movement candidate Daniel Kananura, who is questioning the outcome of the race.
According to Nile Post, Musisi appeared as the respondent and was questioned by lawyers for Kananura about the vote tally declared by the Wakiso District Returning Officer. He told court that he could not remember the exact figure from the declaration, saying he was more familiar with the results later published in the gazette. He also said he had received the results sheet but had mainly focused on his own figures, and could not state the numbers for other contenders, including Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda and Kananura.
The report says Musisi was elected on a National Unity Platform ticket with 21,561 votes, while Ssemujju Nganda received 14,685 and Kananura 6,927. After the election, Musisi was gazetted as the winner. Kananura then moved to court, alleging irregularities in the conduct of the poll.
Nile Post also reported that a recent ruling by Justice George Okello struck out an amended petition on procedural grounds, but the original case remains active. The hearing is continuing alongside other Wakiso election disputes from the 2026 general election, and the court will later decide whether the petition has enough merit to affect Musisi’s seat.
