Musisi Calls for Fire Trucks at Every Police Division After Kireka Blaze

What the report says
Kira Municipality MP George Musisi has urged Uganda to place fire brigade trucks at every police division after a fire destroyed goods at a furniture shop in Kireka, opposite Farmers Market. According to Nile Post, the blaze damaged timber, mattresses and other merchandise belonging to several traders, leaving some business owners facing losses while still repaying loans used to stock their shops.
Musisi argued that decentralising firefighting equipment would allow emergency teams to respond more quickly and reduce the scale of property damage. He said congestion on Jinja Road slowed the fire brigade’s arrival, and he questioned why police divisions, which have already been decentralised in many areas, do not also have firefighting trucks available nearby. He described faster response as essential in emergencies, saying delays can worsen losses.
The MP also said he was working to mobilise support for the affected traders so they could begin recovering from the incident. He linked the appeal to the wider economic pressure many small businesses are already facing. As reported by Nile Post, police had not confirmed the cause of the fire at the time of publication.
Some people at the scene reportedly blamed burning rubbish that may have ignited an electrical wire, but that explanation had not been verified. The incident has renewed attention on Uganda’s fire response capacity and the challenge of reaching busy urban areas in time to contain outbreaks.
