Musisi Accuses Kananura of Abusing Court Process

What the report says
Kira Municipality MP George Musisi has criticized his election rival Daniel Kananura after the High Court in Wakiso allowed Kananura to withdraw a petition challenging Musisi’s victory in the 2026 parliamentary election. Musisi said the case consumed court time and public resources, and argued that it should never have proceeded without stronger evidence.
According to Nile Post, the petition had accused Musisi of election-related wrongdoing, including violence, intimidation, bribery, vote rigging and alleged coordination with polling agents and Electoral Commission officials. Kananura had sought to overturn the result, have himself declared winner, or obtain a fresh election. His withdrawal request came during the witness cross-examination stage, after he said further reflection and consultations showed that key evidence was no longer available.
Musisi rejected that explanation, saying Kananura had enough time to support his claims and that the case lacked a factual and legal basis. He also said the unfinished case distracted him from representing Kira residents. The court permitted the withdrawal and ordered each side to bear its own costs in the application, while Musisi’s lawyer said the judge had considered costs linked to an earlier application.
The withdrawal means the petition’s allegations were not fully examined in a completed trial. More broadly, election petitions in Uganda can be withdrawn before judgment, but such cases are generally expected to be backed by evidence and filed in good faith.
