Musician Bosmic Otim seeks out-of-court settlement in assault case

Local musician Bosmic Joyce Otim has asked the Kitgum Chief Magistrate’s Court to allow him and the complainant to try to settle an assault case outside court. According to The Observer, the request was made through Otim’s lawyer when the matter came up for hearing on Thursday, August 13. Otim is facing a charge of causing grievous bodily harm and remains on cash bail of Shs 2 million.

State Attorney Yusuf Ssali told court that both sides had indicated interest in resolving the dispute through reconciliation. Otim’s lawyer, Robert Okot, supported the proposal and asked that the current bail conditions remain in place while the parties meet and discuss the matter. The complainant is fellow musician and blogger Alfred Joe Okello, also known as KD Kristo Hammer, who accepted the request for mediation.

Kitgum chief magistrate Robert Ekirita adjourned the case to September 15, 2026, for further hearing and extended Otim’s bail. The prosecution says the alleged assault took place on May 3, 2026, at Corner Mission in Pager Division, Kitgum Municipality, where Otim is accused of attacking Okello and causing serious injuries. If the mediation succeeds, the case could be resolved without moving to a full trial, subject to court procedure.
