Museveni urges Ugandans to turn development into household wealth

President Yoweri Museveni has called on Ugandans to turn public development investments into income at household level, saying roads, electricity, schools, health centres and government programmes should be used to build businesses and jobs. The message, reported by Nile Post, was delivered on his behalf by State Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives David Bahati at a fundraising event for St. James Kakiika Church of Uganda.

According to the report, Museveni encouraged people to look beyond the existence of infrastructure and focus on commercial agriculture, manufacturing, industry, services and information and communications technology as practical routes to wealth creation. He also pointed to government initiatives such as Emyooga and the Parish Development Model as tools communities can use to support income-generating activities.

Bahati said the President framed development as something that should improve livelihoods immediately rather than be treated as a distant goal. The message was delivered during a church fundraising drive in Kakiika, where leaders said the project had reached the roofing stage. Museveni also congratulated church leaders and Christians for their work on the project. More broadly, the remarks fit his long-running emphasis on wealth creation and using public infrastructure to support productive economic activity, a theme frequently featured in Uganda’s development policy discourse.
