Museveni Urges Catholic Church to Preach Hard Work and Transformation

What the report says
President Yoweri Museveni has called on the Catholic Church to keep promoting hard work, transformation and unity as Kabale Diocese marks 60 years of service. According to Nile Post, the message was delivered during celebrations at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral in Kabale Municipality, where thousands of Christians gathered for the diocese’s diamond jubilee.
The event combined the anniversary thanksgiving with the ordination of 13 priests and 10 deacons. Museveni, whose remarks were read by Health Minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, praised the Catholic Church for supporting the National Resistance Movement government’s push for economic development and said church leaders should continue encouraging a spirit of discipline and national cohesion.
The president also said government is focusing on regional integration to widen market access for Ugandans. Finance Minister Henry Musasizi said the state would keep backing income-boosting programmes such as the Parish Development Model, and that it was seeking funding for tourism roads in the Kigezi sub-region.
Kabale Diocese’s Apostolic Administrator, Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, urged the newly ordained clergy not to lose heart in the face of ministry challenges and to stay close to God. The jubilee highlights the long-standing role of the diocese, which was established in 1966, in Catholic life in southwestern Uganda.
