Museveni Urges Bunyoro Kingdom to Promote Wealth Creation Among Subjects

What the report says
President Yoweri Museveni has called on the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom to encourage its subjects to pursue wealth-creation activities, especially commercial agriculture, industrialisation, tourism and information and communication technology, as a way to raise household incomes and improve livelihoods. The message was delivered on his behalf by State Minister for Bunyoro Affairs Grace Mary Mugasa during the fourth Kabalega Independence Run in Hoima City on Saturday.
According to the Nile Post report, the annual event at the Rukurato Chambers grounds brought together kingdom subjects, development partners and other stakeholders for races of 21 kilometres, 10 kilometres, five kilometres and two kilometres. This year’s edition centred on promoting coffee growing in the Bunyoro sub-region, with the proceeds intended to help buy and distribute coffee seedlings to farmers. Organisers said the initiative was meant to support coffee as a potential commercial crop for the area.
Museveni also urged people in Bunyoro to preserve their cultural identity, promote unity and continue using the Runyoro language, while drawing inspiration from Omukama Cwa II Kabalega. The run is organised annually by the Kabalega Foundation and is used to celebrate Kabalega’s legacy alongside development causes. This year’s winners included Raymond Omara, Augustine Kyaligonza, Godfrey Agaba and Michael Tumusime, with some prizes donated by local businesses and organisations.
