Museveni backs Balaam, Nameere anti-corruption tours, urges prosecution of culprits

President Yoweri Museveni has publicly backed anti-corruption field tours led by Local Government ministers Balaam Barugahara and Sarah Nameere, saying the public meetings are surfacing complaints that have long been hidden by officials and parts of the elite. Museveni said the problem of corruption has repeatedly come up during his interactions with citizens, including during the 2026 election campaign period, when he said campaign activity was interrupted by grievances about issues such as the Parish Development Model. He also cited reported complaints from elders in Bunyoro about alleged sale of local government jobs, as well as irregularities involving school staffing and public health centres.

The President urged the Directorate of Public Prosecutions to assign a dedicated officer to quickly review evidence gathered from the tours and move forward with prosecutions where there is a case. He argued that public exposure alone is not enough and that credible complaints should lead to legal action against those responsible.
