Museveni Allocates Land for Two Industrial Parks in Ankole

President Yoweri Museveni has allocated land for two industrial parks in Uganda’s Ankole sub-region, according to the Nile Post. Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa said Museveni set aside five square miles each for proposed parks in Ruhengyere and Nakivale in Isingiro District. Tayebwa also said Bushenyi District has provided 70 acres in Kyeizoba for a separate industrial hub.

The announcement was made on Tuesday during the burial of the late Mrs Edna Kentaro Baryaruha in Bushenyi District, where Tayebwa represented the President. He said the Ruhengyere park would focus on food processing, while the Nakivale site would serve a broader industrial purpose. The Kyeizoba project, he added, is expected to begin preparations soon.

The planned developments are intended to support manufacturing, value addition and employment in a region whose economy is largely based on agriculture, including livestock, dairy, coffee and food production. In general, industrial parks are designed to cluster factories and related services on serviced land with infrastructure such as roads, power and water so investors can process raw materials closer to where they are produced.

The article noted that Uganda Investment Authority already oversees several public and private industrial parks elsewhere in the country, some of which have generated jobs and attracted companies. If the Ankole projects move forward, they could create new markets for farmers, processors, suppliers and transporters across the sub-region.
