Muhoozi Urges SFC Commanders to Adapt to New Warfare Technology

What the report says
Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has called on commanders in Uganda’s Special Forces Command (SFC) to keep up with new military technologies and broader global security trends as warfare evolves. According to Nile Post, he said modern threats require faster adaptation and a willingness to integrate suitable technologies into military operations.
Kainerugaba made the remarks on Friday during a handover and takeover ceremony at SFC headquarters in Entebbe. Maj Gen David Mugisha handed over command to Maj Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru, following Mweteise’s recent appointment and promotion. The SFC is a specialized unit of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces responsible for special operations, protection of key installations, and security for the President and First Family.
The CDF also reflected on the unit’s development, noting that he began military training in 1994 when resources were limited, and praised officers for turning the former Presidential Protection Unit into a more specialized force. He congratulated Mugisha for his service and said he was confident Mweteise would build on the progress made.
Mugisha thanked the leadership for the opportunity to serve and said he would pursue further professional military training abroad. Mweteise said he would build on the support already extended to the UPDF. The event was attended by senior military officers, including top joint staff and intelligence officials, underscoring the importance of the transition within one of Uganda’s key security units.
