Muhoozi Endorsement: ULS asks Judge Singiza to resign

What the report says
The Uganda Law Society (ULS) has called for the resignation of Dr Douglas Singiza as chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission, saying his reported links to a campaign backing Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the presidency raise concerns about judicial neutrality. The statement, reported by The Independent Uganda from Kampala, says ULS believes a senior judicial officer must avoid political activity and preserve public confidence in the courts.
According to the report, ULS president Isaac K. Ssemakadde said Singiza appeared at the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) offices and endorsed Kainerugaba’s political ambitions. Singiza had not publicly confirmed or denied the visit in the material reviewed, while PLU later described the gathering as a routine visit. The society is also asking the Constitutional Court to urgently hear an existing petition challenging Singiza’s appointment, along with an application to stop the commission from operating under his leadership while the case is pending.
The dispute comes amid a broader PLU-driven push to promote Kainerugaba as a future presidential candidate, including support from some ruling party figures. The ULS says the matter matters because the Judicial Service Commission helps appoint and discipline judicial officers, so its chairperson must meet especially high standards of impartiality. The society also repeated wider legal objections to PLU’s activities and urged state institutions and judicial bodies to respond. The claims remain allegations and legal arguments, not court findings, in the published statement.
