What the report says

Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has praised the government for recognising the legacy of the late Sheikh Ibrahim Nkangi, whom he credited with important contributions to Islam, education and community development. According to Nile Post, Mubaje made the remarks during Friday congregational prayers at Masjid Rahman in Nansana, Wakiso District, at an event organised by Wakiso Muslim District under the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).

The gathering brought together Muslim leaders, students, parents and local leaders. It also included prayers for Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) candidates, with Mubaje urging learners to combine faith with hard work, discipline and honesty. He encouraged parents, teachers and community leaders to support students both spiritually and materially as they prepare for exams.

The late Sheikh Nkangi was remembered as a figure who contributed to Islamic scholarship, education and mobilisation in Wakiso and beyond. Mubaje said government recognition of the cleric’s service showed that religious leaders’ role in peace, unity and national development is being valued. He said such honours can inspire younger generations to serve their communities with integrity and patriotism.

The event also recognised imams who had completed management courses at Namasuba College of Commerce. Nile Post reported that the training covered administration, financial literacy and leadership to help improve mosque operations and Muslim projects. Office of the National Chairman head Hadija Namyalo Uzeiye attended and pledged support for income-generating activities for the graduates, reflecting a broader push toward grassroots economic empowerment within Muslim communities.
