What the report says

Mufti Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has launched a seven-member committee to translate the Holy Quran into Langi, a step intended to help Langi-speaking Muslims better access Islamic teachings in the Lango sub-region of northern Uganda. According to Nile Post, the committee was unveiled in Lira City during celebrations for the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The team brings together Islamic scholars, educators and language specialists. Nile Post said its members include mosque imams, a district kadhi, school leadership, and people with translation and academic experience. Their task is to produce a Langi version of the Quran so that religious messages can be understood more easily by local communities.

The project was supported financially by Haj Masoud Obeid, a Kampala-based businessman from the Lango sub-region. Mubaje publicly thanked him and encouraged more support for programmes that strengthen Islamic education and the wider Muslim community. In the same event, he said he planned to return to Lango for a week of meetings with Muslim leaders and other stakeholders to discuss concerns about leadership and Muslim property management in the area.

Nile Post also reported that an administrative update presented at the gathering pointed to leadership and property-related challenges in the Lango Muslim District. Mubaje urged patience on any leadership changes until those concerns are addressed, and he repeated calls for brotherhood, respect and peaceful coexistence. The initiative highlights ongoing efforts to make religious texts more accessible in local languages, a common approach in faith communities seeking broader understanding and participation.
