Mufti Mourns Gen Moses Ali, Hails His Legacy of National Service and Support for Muslims

Nile Post reports that Uganda’s Muslim leadership has mourned Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, with the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, describing the veteran soldier and politician as a major figure in national service and in the development of Muslim institutions. The condolence message was issued in Kampala on behalf of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and the Muslim community.

According to the report, Mubaje sent sympathies to Ali’s family, the people of Adjumani and the wider West Nile region, the Government of Uganda and other mourners. He credited Ali with years of service in military and civilian roles, and said he contributed to political development, peacebuilding and reconciliation, especially in West Nile.

The Mufti also highlighted Ali’s role in the formation and growth of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, saying he remained committed to strengthening Muslim institutions during his public life. Nile Post reported that Mubaje linked Ali’s influence in government to support for projects including the Islamic University in Uganda and Kibuli Muslim Hospital, institutions seen as important to both Muslims and the wider public.

For the funeral arrangements, Nile Post reported that Mubaje instructed the UMSC Secretary for Religious Affairs to organise Swalatul-Janazah at the Gaddafi National Mosque on Saturday, ahead of burial planned for Sunday, July 19, 2026. He urged Muslims to attend and pay their respects, while calling on Ugandans to honour Ali’s legacy through unity, peaceful coexistence and service.
