Mubende Deploys 50 Extra Officers as Suspect in Kitenga Attacks Arrested

What the report says
Police in Mubende District have added 50 officers to security operations after a string of violent incidents in Kitenga Sub-county, where residents reported killings, attempted murder and aggravated robberies. The deployment follows attacks said to have taken place in the early hours of Independence Day, when unidentified assailants raided three villages. The reinforcement is meant to help protect residents and property while investigations continue.
According to Nile Post, the extra personnel were drawn from the Field Force Unit headquarters in Naguru and sent to support officers already working in the district. Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi said the buildup is also intended to back joint operations with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces in affected areas, including Kitenga, as authorities try to prevent further attacks and restore public confidence.
In a related development, police arrested a suspect identified as Nelson Nuwataho in Ibanda District on October 12 in connection with the Kitenga incidents. He was first handled by the Rwizi Region Crime Intelligence team before being transferred to Mubende for questioning. Police have not yet disclosed the evidence tying him to the case.
The broader significance is that security agencies are still trying to establish who carried out the attacks and whether others were involved. More details are expected as the inquiry develops.
