MTN Uganda takes maternal health campaign to western Uganda

What the report says

MTN Uganda has expanded its annual employee volunteer programme to Kibiito Health Centre IV in Bunyangabu District, western Uganda, in a push to support maternal and newborn care at the primary-healthcare level. According to The Independent Uganda, the two-day activity took place on August 6 and 7 and brought together company staff, district officials, health workers, community members and development partners.

The Kibiito stop included a community health camp with screening, registration and health education. It also featured training for medical records officers on the Electronic Medical Records Information System, digital literacy sessions for Village Health Teams and community health workers, financial literacy training through MTN MoMo, and tree planting as part of broader community and environmental work. The report says the facility is the first of four health centres included in MTN Uganda’s 2026 Y’ello Care campaign.

The company says the wider campaign is being carried out under the theme “Expand Equitable Health for Every Community” and includes support valued at more than Shs 600 million across facilities in Bunyangabu, Gomba, Luuka and Amudat districts. MTN Uganda says it has supported maternal and newborn health programmes for more than a decade, while district health officials said stronger digital systems and trained staff can improve service delivery for mothers and children.

The Independent also noted that the campaign is being run with partners including the Ministry of Health, UNFPA and several private and civil-society groups, and that this year’s launch was delayed from June because of Uganda’s response to the Ebola outbreak.
